Digital Nomads: Work in These Windows of Time so You Smash it

Digital nomads: According to a new survey, remote, hybrid, and full-time office workers all have “power hours” where they get their work done, no matter where they are working from.

A survey of more than 2,400 professionals has thrown light on five productivity trends that have emerged since the shift to remote work. This is according to research commissioned by recruiter Robert Half.

Digital Nomads and Power Hours

-Productivity peaks early in the week. Workers get the most done on Monday and Tuesday, and it doesn’t make a difference whether they are at home or in the office. Interestingly, these results are similar to results that came from a survey conducted in 2019, before the rise of remote and hybrid work.

-Professionals have defined power hours. Most workers hit their stride in the late morning (9 to 12) and early afternoon (1 to 4). This regardless of where they work from. Very few people tackle their to-do lists during lunch or evening hours.

-Meetings are getting in the way. When asked to share what most impedes their productivity, the top response was unnecessary calls and meetings (annoying) followed by conversations with colleagues (not annoying).

-Home is where it happens. 1 in 5 workers said they’re equally productive wherever they work from. But 35% said they accomplish more at home. Those who actually turn up to an office perform best in a private space (43%) rather than a collaborative one (16%).

-Worries about flexible work are waning. Two-thirds of employees say that their boss cares more about them getting their work done, than where they actually work from.  Separate research shows that 27% of managers don’t mind if their staff put in fewer hours, as long as the work gets done.

Remote Workers: Getting it Done

Paul McDonald is a senior executive director at Robert Half. “Employees need to show they can manage their time by meeting deadlines and being available to collaborate. And in turn, managers need to lead by example and evaluate performance based on achieving business and individual goals. Understanding work habits and preferences – and focusing on results – is key to maximizing productivity. When team members communicate their schedules and are aligned on goals, they’re more effective.”

I think we can all agree that working in our pyjammies is a great lifestyle choice.
